Identity & Privilege Declaration
Naming and declaring your identities and your privilege is the first small step to begin to recognize how these aspects affect your experience of the world.
It's also a way for others to realize how your views may or may not have been shaped by society and hold you accountable when necessary.
This concept was first introduced to me by Remodeled love and I am forever grateful for the content and concepts that they share.
And so with all of that said, here is my identity declaration:
My name is Caitlyn Rhorer and my pronouns are they/them/she/her
I currently identify as a white, non-binary, pansexual, Ambiamorous individual. I was born and raised in the Midwest region of the United States. I am a recovering Catholic meaning I grew up in the church but now identify as a secular humanist.
I have the privilege of being in a heterosexual and monogamous- presenting marriage and appearing as a cis-gendered female. My spouse and I also parent 2 biological kiddos together.
I am able-bodied other than sporadic migraines that may pop up from time to time and I deal with anxiety and panic disorders. I am also somewhere on the neurodivergent spectrum, though most would not be able to tell.
I am college educated, although my parents were not, and my spouse and I are currently considered middle-class. I have a master's degree in social work along with a BA in psychology and training in sex therapy. The ability to pursue this education has been a huge privilege that I fully recognize.
My spouse and I both recognize that we are incredibly privileged in many ways and work always keep those privileges in mind with everything we do. I ask that you also keep this in mind as you explore any of my content. Know that everything I do may be skewed due to my experiences within the world though I work to reflect on this. If there is anything that may be problematic, I am always welcome to criticism, education, and continuous growth and self-reflection!
Thank you as always for your time and support!
